Frequently Asked Questions

Scooter Forks

A fork is a component on a scooter that holds your front wheel and also connects the bottom half of your scooter to your headset, clamp, and bars. Your compression system keeps the headset and the entire front end of your scooter tight, preventing it from wobbling. The fork is what your compression will be attached to (usually).

What are the different types of scooter forks?

Forks come in 5 variants technically, but the vast majority you’ll ever run into are forks for SCS, HIC, or IHC.

  1. SCS—These types of forks are meant for use with SCS compression only, but they can sometimes also be used with HIC as they have the same standardized diameter and will fit most integrated headsets on the market.
  2. HIC - These types of forks are meant to be used with HIC compression only, but sometimes can also be used with SCS as they are the same, standardized diameter and will fit most integrated headsets on the market.
  3. IHC - These forks act in the exact same manner as a HIC fork but are slightly thinner in diameter. This makes them extremely popular for people trying to get the most lightweight scooter possible. Because of their smaller diameter, they all come with their own specific hardware that cannot be found elsewhere. They will fit any integrated headset on the market if you use the compression hardware that comes with your IHC fork.

How do I choose the right scooter fork?

The two main factors to consider when picking out a new fork are its compression compatibility and wheel size compatibility. If you’re looking for something super durable, and you don’t mind a bit of extra weight, you may want to go with SCS. If you’re looking for something as lightweight as possible, but not quite as durable, we recommend IHC. HIC is your best bet for something in the middle of the road for both of these! Just be sure the fork can fit the wheels you want to get in both their diameter and width.

How do I install a scooter fork?

Assembling the front end of your scooter (fork, headset, and deck) can oftentimes be the most difficult part of the scooter assembly process if you’re not familiar with the process. It’s also a pretty difficult thing to wrap your head around by just reading and not actually seeing what you’re supposed to do. This is why we’ve got a full video breaking down the 3 main compression types; their benefits, downsides, and the entire assembly process step-by-step. You can find that on our YouTube channel here: SCS vs HIC vs IHC Comparison and Installation Guide
