Finally, Proto has entered the headset game! Since its creation, Proto has made nothing but top-of-the-line products. Proto isn't known for taking shortcuts. This headset isn't anything short of that. It has been in the works and hinted at by Proto themselves for quite some time, and we're happy to say it's finally here! The Integrattron combines the compression ring and dust cover into one piece for two reasons. Most importantly, combining the two pieces reduces the unsupported space on the forktube, which should make your fork last longer. Secondly (maybe more important to you), the combined piece is lighter than the two separate pieces. This headset is not compatible with IHC or Mini HIC compression!
For those who are interested in a more detailed reason for the Integrattron, here's a little explanation from Andrew Broussard, the creator of Proto Scooters. The wedge (compression) ring exerts direct compressional force/contact to the fork tube. The same can be said for an SCS clamp (or even the bars/clamp in an ICS/HIC scenario). However, headset spacers and dust covers are just free floating spacers that move less, but still exert non-clamping forces onto the forktube. This means that the air gap between the wedge (compression) ring and dust cover is completely unsupported which allows for flex in that region. Flex = Fatigue = Broken forktube. Forks always break above the wedge (compression) ring, and below the clamp. The smaller this space is, the less likely your fork is to snap, and that's why Proto has combined the pieces!
