Frequently Asked Questions

Scooter Decks

There are three main things to consider when picking out your new deck: size, weight, and shape (boxed vs. non-boxed). You’ll want to select the right combination of these 3 factors to ensure you get the right deck for you and your riding style.

What is the difference to a boxed or non-boxed scooter deck?

The rear end of a scooter deck can come in 2 shapes for the most part: boxed and non-boxed. A boxed deck is when the entire deck profile continues to the back end. A non-boxed deck taper or angle is at the end of the deck, near your axle. The benefits to a boxed deck are that it will provide you more surface area to lock into grinds such as feebles, 50-50’s, and 5-0’s. A non-boxed or angled deck does not have this benefit, but being angled like this, it makes your deck lighter and more aerodynamic for tricks. Another added factor of non-boxed or angled decks is that you can install pegs on your deck to give you that extra surface area for grinds like a boxed deck.

What are deck sizes, and how do they affect riding?

Decks come in varying sizes for both the width and length of the deck. A smaller deck in both width and length will be more lightweight and aerodynamic and make your park tricks easier to pull off. A wider deck will be more comfortable and make most grinds much easier since you’ll have more wiggle room to lock into them. A longer deck will again give you more footspace, which will feel more comfortable and affect the ‘balance’ point of the deck for grinds and manuals. For deck length, the main factor is personal preference and riding style.
